23 New baby gorillas receive names: A highlight of Kwita Izina

0

Kinigi was alive with excitement on Friday as the Kwita Izina ceremony took place, where 23 new baby gorillas were given their names.

This event occurred in the Musanze District, alongside Volcano National Park, which is home to more than 600 gorillas. It’s an annual tradition and this Friday marked the 19th occurrence.

Numerous celebrities from around the world attended the ceremony, including those who had the honor of naming the baby gorillas. The First Lady of Rwanda, Jeannette Kagame, graced the occasion with her presence.

It was heartwarming to see everyone filled with joy as they witnessed the proceedings and learned the names chosen for the baby gorillas.

The event commenced with lively music performances by local artists such as Bwiza, Ariel Wayz, Danny Vumbi, Riderman, and Senderi, who created a vibrant atmosphere.

Following the musical performances, the stage was taken over by the dynamic duo of journalist Samdrine Isheja and comedian Arthur Nkusi, who added a lively touch to the event.

They began by welcoming and introducing the individuals who would be naming the gorillas, all dressed in the traditional Rwandan attire known as ‘umushanana.’

This was followed by remarks from Clare Akamanzi, CEO of the Rwanda Development Board (RDB), who expressed gratitude to the local communities around the park for their dedication to conserving and maintaining a suitable environment for the mountain gorillas. The naming ceremony then commenced.

All the namers took the stage, sharing their chosen names in Kinyarwanda, each carrying a special significance reflecting Rwanda’s values and commitment to conservation.

The names given to the baby gorillas are as follows: Gakondo, Bigwi, Ingoboka, Intiganda, Aguka, Umutako, Ikirango, Ramba, Inganzo, Urunana, Impundu, Gisubizo, Intarumikwa, Nibagwire, Jijuka, Narame, Inshingano, Mukundwa, Mucungunzi, Turumwe, Mugisha, Uburinganire, and Murare.

In her closing remarks as the guest of honor at Kwita Izina, First Lady Jeannette Kagame emphasized that Rwanda would not choose between economic growth and its responsibilities towards nature. Instead, the country would continue to invest in conservation efforts as it progresses.

Envisioning Kinigi: Exploring Kwita Izina’s Transformative Influence on Rwanda

0

A diverse group of individuals, including politicians, football legends, cinema stars, comedians, fashion icons, and others, have come together in Kinigi to celebrate the 19th edition of the heartwarming Kwita Izina ceremony.

All eyes are warmly focused on Kinigi, nestled in the Musanze district, as Rwanda holds a touching ceremony to name 23 adorable baby gorillas born in the embracing embrace of Volcanoes National Park.

This ceremony holds a special place as a national gathering, uniting government officials, citizens, and friends of Rwanda from all corners of the world. It underscores the deep significance of this event.

Initiated by the Rwandan government back in 2005, Kwita Izina is not just a simple event; it’s a heartwarming tradition that cherishes the new life of baby gorillas. It’s an annual celebration that has seen the naming of 354 babies over the years.

Yet, this occasion carries profound impacts beyond its symbolism. It serves as a catalyst for prosperity, especially in the tourism sector. By fostering tourism and generating considerable tax revenue, Kwita Izina plays a pivotal role in enhancing Rwanda’s economic vitality. This success story is intertwined with the Visit Rwanda initiative, which brings in renowned personalities from various nations, thereby elevating Rwanda’s global prominence. Consequently, the Rwanda Development Board has reported an uplifting 56% rise in tourist arrivals over a span of three years.

Volcanoes National Park, cherished for its natural beauty, stands tall as a cornerstone in this endeavor. The RDB’s insights reveal a significant boost, with the tourism and hospitality industry contributing a remarkable $445 million to the economy, a substantial leap from $164 million in 2021.

The benefits extend beyond governmental spheres. The neighboring communities around Volcanoes National Park also partake in the rewards, collectively benefiting from over a billion units of currency.

Yet, Kwita Izina extends its impact even further. It brings people together, fostering connections and nurturing awareness about the precious value of gorilla conservation. This plays a crucial role in cultivating a sense of responsibility and ownership among communities living in proximity to these gentle creatures’ habitats. Their involvement in safeguarding the environment and wildlife is heartening.

Kwita Izina is also an educational and awareness-raising platform. Its programs contribute to heightened environmental consciousness and education, particularly among Rwanda’s vibrant younger generation. This consciousness lays the foundation for a resilient culture of conservation.

This occasion also offers a splendid chance to showcase Rwanda’s vibrant culture and traditions on a global platform. This cultural tourism, coupled with the allure of wildlife, paints a positive image of Rwanda that stretches far beyond its boundaries.

This upcoming Friday holds a heartwarming promise as 23 baby gorillas will receive their names from different individuals. These include John Noah, a former NBA Chicago Bulls center; Lais Ribeeiro, a model; Asa, a talented singer; Danai Gurira, an accomplished actor; Queen Kalimpinya, a Rally Car driver; Idris Elba Obe and his wife Sabrina Dhowre Elba; the beloved comedian Kevin Hart; and a host of other kind-hearted souls who believe in celebrating and cherishing life’s wonders.

A Tale of Passion and Resilience: Billy’s Inspiring Rise in the Hospitality Industry

0

In 2019, I had the pleasure of visiting Century Park Nyarutamara for a meeting. It was an unforgettable experience, as it was my first time witnessing the splendor of this vibrant place in the heart of Kigali. The park’s lush green corners and captivating ambiance exuded sheer enjoyment and irresistible charm.

The stunning beauty of this place left me spellbound. Even though I couldn’t explore it much due to the meeting, I couldn’t help but be captivated. It compelled me to make future plans, filled with anticipation, to come back and fully immerse myself in its enchanting charm.

After a month, I returned to this vibrant place, and it was an absolute delight. The Chillax lounge provided me with an incredible experience great music, delectable Chinese cuisine, and a breathtaking night view that left me in awe. I had an abundance of fun and cherished every moment of my time there.

These unforgettable memories left me pondering about the owner of this remarkable place. Initially, I speculated that it must be a collective effort or the creation of some highly accomplished individuals. Surprisingly, it didn’t take long for me to realize the truth.

During my time there, I happened to witness a Chinese gentleman enthusiastically singing karaoke. My friend and I exchanged lighthearted jokes, playfully remarking, “Imagine traveling all the way from China to become a karaoke star in Rwanda!” We found it amusing and shared a laugh over the thought.

Unbeknownst to us, we were oblivious to the true story behind that man. Several months later, I returned to Century Park for work as one of the judges for Miss Supranational 2019. To my surprise, I encountered the same Chinese karaoke star once again.

As we began exchanging introductions, I was taken aback when the Chinese karaoke man revealed himself, saying, “My name is Billy, and I am the chairman of Century Park Hotel and Residences and co-founder of Kigali Marriott Hotel.” At that moment, my mind raced with disbelief, thinking, “Is this for real?”

From Waiter to Hotels Owner: Billy’s Extraordinary Journey

After a few days, I returned to Century Park Hotel and Residences to attend their event, which involved a signing with Aleph Hospitality. This time, I had the privilege of personally speaking with Billy.

In those fleeting moments, I perceived the wisdom emanating from Billy. In a few words, he revealed that his remarkable journey in the hospitality industry began years ago when he started as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. It became apparent that his path to success had been forged through his early experiences and dedication to his career.

Billy said that his first work started in Hong Kong when he was working in a restaurant as a waiter.

“My first job in a restaurant was in Hong Kong, I think it was 1995 when I moved to Canada I started being a waiter.”

Given his initial experience as a waiter, I am intrigued by his journey to becoming one of the most prominent hotel owners. According to him, seizing opportunities was the key factor that propelled his remarkable success.

“When you are young, work and learn whether you get nothing but actually you are not get nothing as long as you work you will get something at the end of the day.”

“Whether it is face value, money, or some knowledge whenever you have opportunities you shall learn; cause is not everywhere cause being lazy can’t take you anywhere.” Billy Said

In conclusion, his journey has imparted invaluable lessons that have deeply impacted me. I have learned the importance of pursuing one’s passions and seizing opportunities, the rewards of hard work and staying grounded, and the significance of humility and active listening.

Moreover, meeting him has opened my eyes to the immense potential and possibilities within the tourism and hospitality industry, igniting a passion within me and inspiring me to explore the abundant opportunities available. As I embark on my own path, I am excited to embrace these lessons and forge a successful and fulfilling career in this dynamic field alongside fellow aspiring young professionals.

Billy’s journey in the hospitality industry is an inspiration to young people who strive to advance their careers.
